Bold Ideas for Improving Teacher Education and Teaching: What We See, Hear, and Think
Wang, Jian; Spalding, Elizabeth; Odell, Sandra J.; Klecka, Cari L.; Lin, Emily
Journal of Teacher Education, v61 n1-2 p3-15 2010
The editors of this issue of the "Journal for Teacher Education" invited experienced scholars working in different teacher education fields and research traditions to share their bold ideas drawn from personal understandings of their fields and research. The new editorial team for the "Journal of Teacher Education" has published these scholars' articles in this inaugural double issue, "Bold Ideas for Improving Teacher Education and Teaching." In this editorial, the editors divide the articles into five groups based on the bold ideas the authors propose and the connections among them. They then discuss the articles based on what they see in reading them, the messages they hear them sending, and what they think about the arguments emerging from each. These groups are: (1) bold ideas for practice-focused transformation; (b) bold ideas for engagement in political struggle; (3) bold ideas for internally initiated changes; (4) bold ideas for learning to teach for diversity; and (5) bold ideas for challenging popular assumptions.
