Got Rhythm? Get RockBand[TM]!
Nardo, Rachel
General Music Today, v23 n2 p38-39 2010
According to a 2009 report by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), at least 68% of American households now play video games, and half the parents in America now play video games with their children. Grandparents are in on the action, as well. In addition, nursing homes and senior centers are now incorporating video games into their recreational programs. This article introduces RockBand[TM]: The Beatles[TM], the newest released video game about rhythm and more. It comes with two wireless interface instruments (guitar/bass guitar and drums) and a singer's microphone. Each instrument has a unique function, and the microphone gives the singer real time feedback on how well they are matching pitch and rhythm to a given song. The program provides training on each of the instruments. RockBand: The Beatles operates in modes ranging from beginner to advanced. The contents of RockBand: The Beatles can come to class in the form of related singing activities, history of rock lessons, bass xylophone parts, and basic guitar or ukulele lessons.
