Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Somali women are among the most disadvantaged adults in British society. Research consistently shows that their participation and achievement in organised learning is dramatically lower than for the population at large. "Dare to Dream: Learning journeys of Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Somali women" is the report of research carried out by NIACE into the lower rates of participation of these women in organised learning. "Dare to Dream" recognises that the position of women from the same groups can differ dramatically and articulates a gap between women's aspirations and the opportunities open to them. It maps a journey of changing values and widening provision as well as pockets of persistent exclusion from learning opportunities. The study finds that there are multiple and interconnected reasons for this and concludes that different strategies are required to ensure that all, especially the most oppressed and marginalised, are reached. It puts forward a community outreach framework to support approaches to bring about greater inclusion.
