In the Driver's Seat
Stanistreet, Paul
Adults Learning, v16 n9 p19-21 May 2005
In this article, the author reports on a unique project which is helping members of gypsy and traveller communities to pass their driving theory test, and, in the process, to improve their literacy skills. The Sheffield Gypsy Traveller Support Group is a centre offering a wide range of specialist services to gypsies and travellers, from welfare rights advice to anti-racism work. The project arranges reading support with driving test centres and works with local driving instructors, combining work on a simulator and home visits to work on the details of the Highway Code.
