People Who Need People: How 11 Intrepid Users Get the Most out of Social Media
Ishizuka, Kathy
School Library Journal, v56 n2 p32-36 Feb 2010
At its heart, social media has less to do with technology or a particular application than forging connections with others. How one creates those connections is the question the author posed to some insightful social media users. From a publisher of multiplatform books and a passionate educator to an Internet pioneer and a children's book author, these contributors share how social media works for them. This article presents contributions from 11 intrepid users who share how they get the most out of social media. These include: (1) Kat Meyer: All a-Twitter about books; (2) Will Richardson: Name your passion; (3) Paula Chase Hyman: Celebrating books by people of color; (4) Kaleb Nation: Establish your personal brand; (5) Mitali Perkins: Toasting new titles on Twitter; (6) Michael Porter and David Lee King: The lowdown on Library 101; (7) Lisa Holton: Letting readers run with the story; (8) Steven W. Anderson: A technologist gets social; (9) Howard Rheingold: Participatory media literacy; (10) Sarah Chauncey: Social media for the very young; and (11) Joe Murphy: Going mobile.
