Korkmaz, Isa
Education, v129 n2 p250-258 Win 2008
Curriculum is a main part of education system. In order to reform educational system and policies, curriculum is taken a central consideration. Restructured curriculum means that role of teachers and students in teaching-learning atmosphere are redefined. The Ministry of National Education in Turkey began to introduce a new curriculum for elementary schools (1-5 grades) in 2005-2006. After then, every following grade curriculum is going to be reformed until the end of eight grade. High schools' curriculums are also being reshaped to complement elementary schools' curriculum. The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of teachers about implementation of restructured curriculum in elementary schools. In order to collect data, open-ended form that was developed by researcher was employed to 210 primary school teachers. Primary school teachers generally have a positive attitude about the new curriculum and approve the philosophical and psychological foundation of it. However, they think that text books of each content area should be revised. On the other hand, the implementation of the new curriculum have some difficulties because some schools do not have enough sources, some classrooms are so crowded, parents do not have enough information about the new curriculum, and teachers have to fill out so many forms about students performance and study habits.
