Spirituality Then and Now: Our Journey through Higher Education as Women of Faith
Wilson Allison, Audrey M.; Boone Broadus, Patreece R.
New Directions for Teaching and Learning, n120 p77-86 Win 2009
Throughout a ten-year friendship and professional relationship emerging from a shared graduate school experience, the authors have consistently acknowledged their spiritual beliefs as the fiber of their existence and purpose. Even though there are many occurrences in their personal lives from which they could each "testify" about the grace of God, the authors seek to focus on their shared religious tradition and its influence on their journey through academe, from doctoral students to university professors. Specifically, they examine reliance on spiritual convictions that uplifted, motivated, and energized them through the rigors of graduate study. This chapter explores how spirituality, infused with cultural identity, influences their current pedagogy.
