In the February 2008 issue of "Communique", Miller, DeOrnellas, and Maricle raised the question: Is it time for National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) to recognize subspecialties? Based on the literature and emerging trends in the field, Miller and others argued for the need to recognize subspecialization; however, empirical data to support their position was lacking. Thus, in an effort to explore opinions on whether recognizing subspecialization in school psychology had merit, the authors developed a survey to address this question. The NASP Research Committee approved the authors' request to survey 1,000 randomly selected regular NASP members on the topic of subspecialization. The survey data were collected between August and October, 2008. There were 110 respondents for a return rate of 11%. The results of the survey are briefly summarized in this article.
