Lee, Okseon; Ravizza, Dean; Lee, Myung-Ah
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v80 n7 p36-41 Sep 2009
Preparing teacher candidates to be reflective professionals is a critical component of physical education teacher education programs. Although many specific strategies have been developed to facilitate post-lesson reflection, strategies for reflecting on future work and professional life have not been widely explored. As a way to facilitate teacher candidates' reflection in a broad context, this article discusses and shares the idea of using feature films as a medium to foster reflection. Specifically, this article discusses the benefits of using movies as a tool for reflection, discusses several practical considerations related to the use of movies, and describes a four-step process of film-mediated reflection.
