Public Services Quarterly, v5 n3 p212-216 2009
While podcasting initiatives may have come and gone in many libraries, it remains a powerful and accessible way to leverage emerging technology to make personal as well as practical connections with users. In this article, the author briefly discusses best practices in podcasting informed by her experience in public radio, which gives her a unique perspective on the nuts and bolts of recording and broadcasting. She also introduces BiblioVox, a fledgling library audio storytelling project she has been developing with a colleague. It aims to explore and preserve individual relationships among libraries, users, and librarians. Inspired by StoryCorps, the goal is to empower librarians to understand the roles they play in the lives of their communities by capturing the library-related memories, stories, hopes, and impressions of their patrons and colleagues.
