The Future Voices in Public Services column is a forum for students in graduate library and information science programs to discuss key issues they see in academic library public services, to envision what they feel librarians in public service have to offer to academia, to tell us of their visions for the profession, or to tell us of research that is going on in library schools. We hope to provide fresh perspectives from those entering our field, in both the United States and other countries. Brett Bodemer, Karen Brown, and Jennifer Crowther are graduate students in the Library and Information Science Program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Here they offer their perspectives on issues in collection management and information literacy instruction. Since 1965, the University of Hawaii Library and Information Science (LIS) Program (http://www.hawaii.edu/lis/) has offered a professional masters degree in Library and Information Science. We also offer post-master's certificates. We were founding partners in the intra-disciplinary Ph.D. in Communication and Information Sciences. The LIS Program is the only ALA-accredited program part of a Computer Science Department, which offers students unique opportunities to prepare for emerging information careers.
