Dual and Concurrent Enrollment and Transition to Postsecondary Education
Lewis, Morgan V.; Overman, Laura
Career and Technical Education Research, v33 n3 p189-202 2008
Dual and concurrent enrollments enable students to earn postsecondary credits while still in high school. The 2006 Perkins legislation encourages such enrollments as a component of programs of study. There is evidence that students who earn dual enrollment credits have slightly (typically 4% to 5%) more positive outcomes in postsecondary education than similar students who do not. These effects, however, may be due to self-selection into dual credit courses. The modest advantages associated with dual enrollment may not be sufficient to justify the effort to develop and implement such programs. (Contains 2 tables and 5 footnotes.)
