Identifying and Implementing Education Practices Supported by Rigorous Evidence: A User Friendly Guide
Baron, Jon
Journal for Vocational Special Needs Education, v26 n1-2 p40-54 Fall 2003-Win 2004
This article presents a guide that seeks to provide assistance to educational practitioners in evaluating whether an educational intervention is backed by rigorous evidence of effectiveness, and in implementing evidence-based interventions in their schools or classrooms. The guide is organized in four parts: (1) A description of the randomized controlled trials, and why it is a critical factor in establishing "strong" evidence of an intervention's effectiveness; (2) How to evaluate whether an intervention is backed by "strong" evidence of effectiveness; (3) How to evaluate whether an intervention is backed by "possible" evidence of effectiveness; and (4) Important factors to consider when implementing an evidence-based intervention in one's schools or classrooms. (Contains 26 endnotes.)
