Technology and Pedagogy: Building Techno-Pedagogical Skills in Preservice Teachers
Beaudin, Lorraine; Hadden, Corey
Innovate: Journal of Online Education, v2 n2 Dec 2005-Jan 2006
Lorraine Beaudin and Corey Hadden discuss methods for grounding preservice teachers in pedagogically sound, technologically based approaches to education. They examine the teacher education program in the Faculty of Education at the University of Lethbridge. This program focuses on meta-teaching and process-oriented instruction that will provide students with deep learning experiences that will follow them into their future classrooms. Instruction takes place in an innovative online learning environment where preservice teachers explore technology, learn technical skills, evaluate the appropriateness of various technologies in their subject areas, and devise creative and meaningful approaches to incorporating technology into sound pedagogy. The focus is on developing both the technological skills and the critical and reflective thinking skills necessary to continue using the most up-to-date technologies in the classroom.
