In 1999 Planned Parenthood[R] Federation of America (PPFA[R]) launched teenwire.com[SM], a Web site for young people. This study was designed to determine teens' reproductive health information needs. Selected for analysis were 1,219 submissions to the Ask the Experts section of the Web site. Each submission was independently coded by three of the authors. Findings suggest that the Internet is a useful way to provide teens with access to sexuality information, and that it can reach a wide audience of teens. Of possible concern in this study were the findings that teens asked very few questions about sexually transmitted infections, relatively few males submitted questions to the site, and teens were asking about sex behaviors at significantly younger ages than they were asking about services, pregnancy, or contraception/protection. A combination of education resources, including Web sites, are necessary to provide teens with the vital information they need to be sexually healthy. (Contains 1 table and 1 figure.)
