Grade Retention and School Completion: Through Students' Eyes
Penna, Albert A.; Tallerico, Marilyn
Journal of At-Risk Issues, v11 n1 p13-17 Win 2005
There are numerous factors associated with not finishing high school. The purpose of this student was to shed new light on one of them, grade retention, as seen through the eyes of retained dropouts themselves. Respondents describe three interrelated phenomena that characterized their trajectory from being retained-in-grade to subsequent premature exit. The article concludes with suggestions for concerned educational professionals to help redirect the trajectory toward more positive outcomes.
