Lechtenberger, DeAnn; Mullins, Frank Edward; Greenword, Dale
TEACHING Exceptional Children, v40 n4 p56-64 Mar-Apr 2008
Teacher preparation programs can play an essential role in disseminating information on children's mental health and design curricula that teach the skills necessary for promoting good mental health in schools to preservice and inservice professionals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. The strategies presented in this article will provide guidance to preservice teacher and school administrator preparation programs in redesigning coursework and training for future school faculty and administrators. These strategies can strengthen the skills of educators to work within education systems as they partner with other community agencies and human service organizations who can provide the expertise, skills, and mental health resources and linkages for children and families to be healthy and successful.
