Perspectives: Sexuality and Dance in Higher Education
Journal of Dance Education, v4 n1 p33-40 2004
This article presents a collection of shorter pieces from current and former dance chairpersons which addresses concerns and questions about sexuality in dance education from a variety of perspectives. Although each essay stands alone (and was written as such), the conversation that develops helps one to see the larger geography mapped by exploring sexuality in differing contexts and their multiple applications to dance education. These pieces are: (1) "Clarifying Gender in the Learning Environment" by Luke Kahlich; (2) "Recovering Girlhood: A Pedagogy of Embodiment" by Sherry B. Shapiro; (3) "Sexuality and Dance in Higher Education" by Donna Davenport; and (4) "We Must Provide Safe and Non-Judgmental Support for Gay, Lesbian, and Transgendered Students" by Bill Evans.
