Integrating Advanced Technology in Teacher Education Courses
Unkefer, Lesley Craig; Shinde, Satomi; McMaster, Kristen
TechTrends: Linking Research and Practice to Improve Learning, v53 n3 p80-85 May 2009
Knowledge about technology is an expectation for classroom teachers in today's schools. Technology is fundamental to the teaching process, supporting student learning and improving instruction. Instructors of pre-service teachers should not only promote the use of technology but also provide future teachers with effective models of instruction. The purpose of this study was to provide an interactive connection between coursework and pre-service teachers' teaching and learning experience with the outcome that the students reflect on learning with technology and using technology resources and systems. Using distance education technologies, students had multiple opportunities for interaction and learning with the instructors, other students, and experts in the field on content related issues of the course. The activities students engaged in and their responses to the activities both conceptually and practically are presented as well as experiences of the instructors in terms of content development and dissemination based on effective teaching principles.
