Music in Education Is Education for Life
Yick-Ming, Rosanna Wong
International Journal of Music Education, v23 n2 p107-109 2005
Education is more than rote learning or vocational training. It should also be about art, sports and music if it seriously wishes to be called holistic, and if it seriously wishes to produce well-rounded and balanced young adults who can contribute to the community. Music education is an enjoyable experience and fills students with enthusiasm, nurtures their creativity and encourages their participation. Four factors--enjoyment, enthusiasm, creativity and participation--form the bedrock on which educational development should take place. Children need every exposure to music, and lack of financial resources or emphasis on examinations in subjects other than music should not be used as an excuse for omitting music education from school curricula.
