What's Your EQ?
Cobb, Jenny
Campus Technology, v20 n6 p14-16 Feb 2007
To increase operational effectiveness and efficiency and develop the next generation of IT leaders, one needs to move toward an emotionally intelligent organization (EIO) model. The EIO promotes a culture in which openness, transparency, and respectful assertiveness are the norm. It also encourages diversity, tolerates constructive disagreement, and values contained flexibility and multidirectional communication. In this article, the author presents 10 steps to an effective EIO model. These steps are: (1) Be a role model; (2) Actively assess not just dual but organizational EQ; (3) Envision the EIO; (4) Design and articulate the new structure; (5) Pay attention to culture; (6) Foster learning; (7) Measure; (8) Celebrate; (9) Learn; and (10) Re-assess.
