Walbridge School: At Walbridge School in Madison, WI, One Size Does Not Fit All
Perreth, Katherine
Exceptional Parent, v39 n5 p72-73 May 2009
In this article, the author talks about Walbridge School, a small school in Madison, Wisconsin that brings hope to students with disabilities. The author shares how her eldest son, Ben, who has experienced cognitive impairment, specifically language processing, has improved his reading and writing skills. The small school, with its teacher/pupil ratio of 8:1 in core classes, and an even lower ratio in some cases, was exactly what Ben needed in order to succeed independent of aides. The various methods used at Walbridge for teaching writing, reading, math, and the other disciplines differed from what is typical in public schools, even within special education departments.
