Geography in Australian Schools: A View from the AGTA Chair
Hutchinson, Nick
International Research in Geographical and Environmental Education, v15 n2 p193-198 2006
The Australian Geography Teachers' Association (AGTA) seeks to: (1) foster the teaching and learning of geography in Australian schools and enhance awareness of its applications in society; (2) promote and circulate the results of research into geography education; (3) maintain a professional network through which teachers of geography in Australia may express opinions on educational matters; and (4) represent the interests of its member affiliates on national education decision making bodies. The Association is an energetic body engaged in pursuit of these aims. AGTA supports Geography Week through the preparation of teaching and learning materials and has developed materials on hazard education, primary school geography and geographic skills. In this article, the author talks about geography in Australian schools from the perspective of the AGTA chair.
