Community-Based Caregiver Training: A Rationale and Model for Early Interventionists Who Work with Low-Income Families
Oetting, Janna B.; Pruitt, Sonja L.; Roy, Vicky P.
Zero to Three (J), v27 n1 p13-21 Sep 2006
Speech language pathologists have recently begun to provide community-based education programs to help prevent speech and language problems. These training opportunities can be particularly useful to programs that serve low income families. The authors describe Tips About Talk, a general education and prevention program designed to help caregivers understand typical and atypical language development and the importance of positive talking strategies within a child's daily activities. The pilot study found that the program led to positive changes in the caregivers' speaking strategies.
