Playing Games in Logic and Reasoning in Liberal Arts Mathematics and Getting Students' Work Published
Garrison, Laura A.
PRIMUS, v15 n1 p17-29 Mar 2005
This paper describes two classroom activities and a project that supplement a Liberal Arts Mathematics course's coverage of logic and reasoning. The first classroom activity introduces the writing of inductive and deductive arguments, and the second activity involves analyzing a guest speaker's arguments. The project consists of using logic and reasoning to write an editorial for a newspaper and includes a large bonus for getting it published. These exercises were not only instructional for both the students and the instructor, but also very rewarding and surprisingly fun.
