The Twilight Academy: An Alternative Education Program that Works
D'Angelo, Frank; Zemanick, Robert
Preventing School Failure, v53 n4 p211-218 Sum 2009
Today's adolescent learners are more diverse than ever in terms of their backgrounds, interests, learning styles, and motivations. Thus, school officials must address these differences by thinking outside of the box and creating alternative education settings that acknowledge the fact that not everyone can learn in the traditional classroom setting. The authors detail such a program at a large, urban high school in southeastern Pennsylvania. They explain the philosophy behind the program, as well as its setup and successes. They also address the challenges, curriculum design, discipline issues, and student-teacher relationships.
