Building Bridges between Physical and Behavioral Health: The Child Development Specialist in Pediatric Practice
Lerner, Claire; Hamburger, Ellie
Zero to Three, v27 n3 p30-34 Jan 2007
This article uses the case study of 3-year-old Anna and her parents to illustrate how a child development specialist can be integrated into a private pediatric practice. First, pediatrician Hamburger describes how she and other members of her practice integrated a child development specialist into their pediatric practice. Second, Anna's parents describe the struggles they faced with their daughter and how the support of the child development specialist helped their family. Finally, child development specialist Lerner describes how she created a bridge between the pediatric practice and the family by offering individualized support and child development expertise that enriched both the pediatric setting and the family's ability to support their child.
