Using Electronic Mail for English Language Teaching and Learning in Primary Education in Greece: Potential and Constraints
Loukia, Ntinou
Information Technology in Childhood Education Annual, v2003 n1 p45-67 2003
This article discusses the way online communications, and more precisely e-mail, can be used for English language teaching in a Primary Education classroom in Greece. The first part: (a) briefly describes the context where this particular technology will be used; (b) considers the pedagogical issues and language learning potential of using e-mail in a primary classroom; and (c) provides a rationale for the way that e-mail can be exploited within the teaching context. The second part presents one piece of teaching material, which exemplifies the way in which e-mail communication can be integrated in the curriculum. The basic assumption behind the development of the material is that the teaching of foreign languages in primary schools, when it is combined with integration of innovative methods in language teaching, requires a very careful approach.
