Headteachers of Small Scottish Primary Schools: Still a Match for the Job?
Wilson, Valerie
School Leadership & Management, v28 n5 p523-538 Nov 2008
This article is based on a follow-up study of headteachers of very small Scottish primary schools conducted in 2006. Evidence was collected from a postal survey of 100 headteachers and interviews in nine case study schools. The aim is twofold: first, to provide a "snapshot" of the headteachers, their qualifications, routes to headship and career aspirations; and second, to highlight the ways in which these have changed in the intervening 10 years since the original research was reported. By way of a conclusion, the article poses the question: Are small-school headteachers still a match for the job? (Contains 2 figures and 1 note.)
