Navigating Your Child's School System with or without an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Accommodations
Lavoie, Theresa
Exceptional Parent, v38 n11 p58-59 Nov 2008
Considering how much time a child spends in school and how much influence the school has on a child's future, success for students with ADHD must include a child's school. An important step in navigating a child's school system with or without an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 accommodations includes educating professionals and teachers about ADHD. Often, even the schools are surprisingly uninformed about specifics related to ADHD and may describe students as "just lazy." Such misunderstandings even occur in expensive, private schools if teachers have no previous training in ADHD. In this third article of a 10-part series, the author provides strategies on how schools and teachers may help students with ADHD.
