This article presents three transcripts of the speeches delivered by panelists Gregory G. Gaydos, Philip H. King, and Howard A. Doughty at the the Fifth Annual Hawai'i International Conference on Education last January 2007. The main purpose of their panel discussion was to look at the trends in higher education through the lens of years of teaching experience. In his speech, Professor Doughty treated historical, political and economic contexts of higher education. Dr. Gaydos discussed the challenge to free inquiry posed by political correctness in the classroom. Dr. King spoke to issues of quality and rigor in teaching and in teachers' expectations of student performance.
