This article describes the emergence of health policies targeted at the unhealthy school employee by examining how these are manifest in a Nevada school district. The analysis draws on the work of Foucault, specifically his writings on governmentality. The purpose of this critical appraisal is to problematize school-sponsored health policies by suggesting possible ramifications for these kinds of activities. It is salient for educational scholars and practitioners to consider how these policies, advocated in the name of health, work to construct certain ideologies and correspondingly, how these constructions affect the ways in which school work is managed and regulated.
