Bullying Gets Digital Shot-in-the-Arm
Froese-Germain, Bernie
Education Canada, v48 n4 p44-47 Fall 2008
Online bullying or cyberbullying is one of the changes spawned by the Internet and social networking sites. Sometimes described as "old wine in a new bottle" (to signify a new form of bullying), it is one of those phenomena that has left educators--and just about everyone else--scrambling. In this article, the author details the expanding trend of cyberbullying in schools. This article includes a detailed overview and shares emerging research on this growing phenomenon. The author then explains why students' use of social networking websites for the purpose of cyberbullying constitutes an expanding and very real form of school violence. (Contains 14 notes.)
