The Impact of the Bologna Process on Higher Education in Slovakia
Laszlo, Bela
European Education, v40 n2 p46-65 Sum 2008
"The Bologna process is named after the Bologna Declaration. The primary goal of the accord is the coordination and harmonization of the various European higher education systems without losing their colorful diversity and individual features, thereby making European higher education even more attractive for students and scholars all over the world. The Bologna Declaration aims to create a European higher education area by 2010" (Sprievodca 2006, p. 8). This study presents the pre-Bologna state of the Slovak higher education system, including how the goals of the Bologna process are applied and the consequent reforms in higher education in this country. The implementation of the strategic goals set by the Slovak educational politics will also be discussed, along with its advantages and shortcomings. (Contains 4 notes.)
