Research Review: Connecting Research that Reflects the Evolving Role of Music in Education
Hornbacher, Judy, Ed.; Lipscomb, Scott D.; Scripp, Larry
Teaching Artist Journal, v6 n2 p157-168 Apr 2008
This review focuses on Ramsey International Fine Arts Center (IFAC), a fine arts magnet school within the Minneapolis Public Schools system. Ramsey is a model school for Music-in-Education National Consortium (MIENC) and has been associated with the Learning Through Music (LTM) program for the past five years, a time during which arts integration has become more seamlessly incorporated into the fabric of the school community each year. The authors first provide a theoretical framework for arts integration, provide examples of the types of integrated activities that take place at Ramsey, and then present results of research carried out by teachers, teaching artists, consultants, and university personnel within this learning environment.
