In this article I describe the principles and practices which my Christian beliefs have inspired in me as a university teacher of law. These principles and practices are centered on the threefold requirements that are expected of us: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God. The impulse to act justly towards my students has driven my attempts towards clear, structured, and focused teaching, and to provide well-signposted pathways for achieving the assessment requirements of my courses. The desire to show loving mercy to my students has inspired my efforts to engage personally with each student, thus recognizing his or her individuality and diversity, and to engage in regular dialogue through a range of learning opportunities. The call to walk humbly with God has opened to me the treasures of inspiration, encouragement, altruism, mentorship, and humility, and shown me ways to express my faith in my working life in an appropriate way.
