Practice Notes: Strategies in Health Education
Health Education & Behavior, v34 n6 p841-845 2007
The Practice Notes section is intended to keep readers informed about health education practice around the country. It is an attempt to spread the word about exemplary strategies, initiatives, and programs and share successes in overcoming obstacles or challenges. Periodically, articles presenting perspectives on practice-related issues are also included in Practice Notes. Two programs are described in this issue of Practice Notes: (1) Steppin' Up: Positive Youth Development Program; and (2) Training Advocates as Peer Mentors to Promote Breast Cancer Clinical Research. The first program demonstrates how traditional photo novels can be readily adapted for use as a research tool, ultimately to design more effective interventions. The second program aims to explore whether cancer survivors are willing to serve as peer clinical research mentors (PCRMs) to breast cancer patients who must decide whether to join a clinical trial and to pilot-test a 1-day training to provide the survivors with the necessary skills.
