The authors describe "Zero to Three"'s partnership with Gymboree Play and Music (GPM) to integrate more child development and parenting education into the company's parent-child art, music, and movement classes. It was "Zero to Three"'s first collaboration with a large, private-sector service provider to assist teachers in their efforts to help parents better understand their young child's development and recognize that they can make a positive difference in their child's life. "Zero to Three"'s recommendations included: (1) restructuring age groupings in GPM classes to match developmental milestones; (2) giving each class level an overarching developmental goal tied to what typically developing children are working on at that age; (3) helping teachers see their roles in a new way as facilitators of parents' and children's learning and exploring together; and (4) developing materials for parents.
