The Need for Organizational Innovation in Public Elementary Schools
Beycioglu, Kadir; Aslan, Mahire
International Journal of Educational Reform, v16 n1 p27-37 Win 2007
Schools are subject to changes from the inside and operate in a changing environment. Schools, as the most important individual-based organizations, have to handle changes, and they have to cope with them while educating students. As such, it is vital to consider changes in the educational system of Turkey and those of other countries and to determine innovation needs before implementing any innovation attempt in schools. In this study, the authors wanted to demonstrate that there were needs for organizational innovation in public elementary schools with respect to principals' and teachers' opinions in Malatya, a city in the eastern part of Turkey. The population of the study was 122 principals and assistant principals and 2,397 teachers who were working for 72 public elementary schools in Malatya. This study shows that elementary schools in Malatya, Turkey, need to renew their organizational structure. (Contains 9 tables.)
