"Just" Thinking, Reflecting, and Acting in Schools: A Case of Social Justice Leadership
Ryan, Diana F.; Katz, Susan J.
Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership, v10 n2 p46-65 2007
This case presents contemporary issues confronting a school district where school leaders must take a role in leading staff to develop greater insight into issues of social justice. The story is set in a suburban village school district that has recently seen an influx of immigrants moving into the community. The school district needs to change but the question is "how?" The school district's personnel are challenged by the new school superintendent to take responsibility for creating a socially just educational system. Through the eyes of the superintendent and one building principal, the story unfolds. Information and activities are woven into the story to help educational leadership candidates think about, reflect on, and explore possible actions for change as future leaders in schools.
