School Improvement, the School Librarian and the Process Approach
Collins, Judith
Improving Schools, v10 n2 p117-131 2007
The school librarian focuses on process rather than product, which makes her a useful contributor to institutional change and improvement. She has three main roles: that of information specialist, developer of reading enthusiasts and manager of a resource centre. This article demonstrates ways in which these roles contribute to the enabling conditions of school improvement at school, classroom and pupil levels, and also the extent to which the librarian contributes to enhanced learning outcomes for students. It discusses some factors which currently inhibit the full participation of the librarian in the journey of the school towards school improvement. (Contains 2 notes.)
