Ride with Abandon: Practical Ideas to Include Mountain Biking in Physical Education
Palmer, Steve
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v77 n8 p34-41 Oct 2006
Cycling and mountain biking are among the most popular fitness activities in America. Considering that the purpose of physical education is to encourage lifelong activity for all, it is logical to include lifetime activities such as mountain biking in physical education programs. Many perceived barriers to adding mountain biking in physical education exist, including liability and difficulties acquiring and maintaining bicycles and other necessary equipment. The purpose of this article is to offer equipment and curricular strategies for adding and maintaining mountain biking in a physical education program, as well as to present some teaching and curriculum ideas. (Contains 3 tables and 2 figures.)
