Twenty-First Century Learning for Teachers: Helping Educators Bring New Skills into the Classroom
Wilson, John I.
New Directions for Youth Development, n110 p149-154 Sum 2006
With all the focus on accountability, test scores, and school restructuring, educators may lose sight of the ultimate goal of education: empowering all students to attain personal and professional success when they leave school. As such, educators should equip their students, not simply fill them with data. Educators should make their classrooms the entry point, not the confines, of their students' understanding of the world. However, for twenty-first century learning to take hold in schools, teachers must also be empowered with the training and infrastructure necessary to incorporate new skills into the classroom. This article provides a framework for helping educators bring new skills into the classroom.
