Deaf Children's Approaches to Spelling--Difficulties, Strategies and Teaching Techniques
Wakefield, Penny
Deafness and Education International, v8 n4 p174-189 Dec 2006
This paper examines some of the problems faced by deaf children when attempting to spell the words of written English. It analyses deaf children's awareness of English spelling patterns and considers whether there are spelling errors which are common to these children. Twenty-two children with varying degrees of hearing level were involved and analysis of the results from individual children leads to a discussion concerning the implications for helping deaf children to improve the accuracy of their spelling. (Contains 5 figures and 2 tables.)
