Assessment Practices for Distance MBA Programs: A Snapshot
McCambridge, James A.; Thornhill, Kathy L.
Assessment Update, v17 n1 p3-4 Jan-Feb 2005
The purpose of this article is to provide a snapshot of assessment practices for distance MBA programs in order to help readers gain a better understanding of this landscape. The authors present the findings of a study that they designed which consisted of a nineteen-item on-line questionnaire that surveyed distance MBA providers in regard to their assessment practices. Their research indicated that current assessment efforts for distance MBA programs leave significant room for improvement. The findings indicate that only 40 percent of the respondents measure student perceptions of professional development. Less than one-third of the respondents indicated that they measure student salaries after placement. Eighteen percent ask whether employers are satisfied with the graduates. Approximately 10 percent ask about student satisfaction with job placement after graduation. The authors envision that these findings will help institutions involved with distance MBA programs strengthen their assessment strategies.
