Student Pool Is Expected to Dip and Diversify
Ashburn, Elyse
Chronicle of Higher Education, v54 n29 pA1 Mar 2008
A recently-released analysis of population data has confirmed the acknowledged trend of major diversification in America's higher education student body. After this year's high-school seniors receive their diplomas, the number of graduates nationwide will begin a slow decline until 2015, according to the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. At the same time, the number of minority graduates is expected to grow rapidly. As Americans continue to migrate to the Sun Belt, states such as Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, and Texas will be particularly challenged to make progress towards ensuring that all students are ready for college.
