The Globally Competent Teacher in Secondary Level of Education

Globalization has been defined by Malcom (1995) as a social process in which the constraints of geography on social and cultural arrangements recede and in which people become increasingly aware that they are receding. It is a phenomenon that represents the emerging world wide interdependence of individuals and countries, which is characterized by various economic, political, cultural and social realities. The aim of this research is to identify and highlight those factors needed to make a teacher globally competent and marketable in any nation of the world (with a focus in secondary level of education). This paper examines the preparation of such a teacher: personality, verbal ability, knowledge of information and Communication Technology, knowledge of teaching process and the duties of an effective teacher.
