A Study on Applying Focus Group Interview on Education
Cheng, Kai-Wen
Reading Improvement, v44 n4 p194-198 Win 2007
Focus group interview is a scientific qualitative research method, which has been extensively applied in academic areas over the past 20 years. However, this method is mostly applied in business studies. It is seldom adopted in other academic areas. Therefore, this study attempts to introduce this method in a systematic approach. This study discusses the principles for composing a focus group from 3 aspects, including classification of groups, size of a group, and number of interviews as well as the principles for designing a questionnaire for focus group interviews from two aspects, questions and sequence of questions. Through the introduction and discussion of this method, this study attempts to provide an option of methodology for researchers in education-related areas as a basis for applications in other studies.
