We Love Bombay!
Mehta, Shital
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v106 n1 p19-21 Aug-Sep 2006
The author of this article, an art teacher, describes a lesson in which her elementary school students used acrylics to paint a cityscape of Bombay, India. After seeing huge canvas paintings at an art gallery, the students wanted to paint their own. They performed an exercise in which they closed their eyes, thought about the city, and listed all the graphics and visuals that came to their mind. Then they planned their cityscapes first as sketches and then enlarged their drawings proportionally on canvas. For these ten-year-olds, painting their first canvas was a great achievement and they felt like great masters.
