Comment on "Comparing Harm Done by Mobility and Class Absence: Missing Students and Missing Data"
Bradlow, Eric T.
Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, v28 n3 p289-290 2003
In this article, the author comments on an article by Dunn, Kadane, and Garrow, "Comparing Harm Done by Mobility and Class Absence: Missing Students and Missing Data." He believes the research reported in that article should serve as a model for future applications of Bayesian methods in important educational research problems. The author lauds the three researchers for their use of Bayesian methods, which allowed them to make not only average association statements between absences, mobility, and achievement, but also valid statements of uncertainty through Bayesian p values. As the researchers have demonstrated, these models are now estimable and provide insights beyond the model for test scores themselves.
